According to experts, you can protect your health when you’re buying bottled water by checking the bottom of the bottle.

Since companies have an obligation to label the content of their products, plastic bottles are usually labeled PP, HDPE, or HDP. When bottles have these labels, they’re safe since the plastic doesn’t release dangerous toxins into the water.

However, manufacturers don’t always use safe plastic. Any other letters on the labels mean that the plastic does contain chemicals. In order to be 100% certain that you’re buying healthy bottled water for you and your loved ones, you should know how to choose the right package. For that purpose, we’ve made a list of the meaning of different letters found on the bottom of bottled waters:

PETE or PET

They release heavy metals and chemicals that cause problems with the hormone production in the body.

HDPE or HDP

Bottles that have this mark don’t release toxins and chemicals and therefore, the water is safe for consumption.

PVC or 3V

These letters stand for two toxic substances that cause problems with the body’s hormonal balance.

LDPE

Although this plastic doesn’t have or release chemicals, it’s not adequate for the production of plastic bottles since it’s also added to plastic bags.

PP

These letters stand for plastic that releases carcinogens. It’s also used for the production of coffee cups and fast food casings.

Non-labeled plastic or PC

The most dangerous type of plastic which releases BPA.
