These bars only take a few minutes to make. The hardest part about this recipe is waiting on the bars to cool. These are better after they have been baked, cooled and refrigerated for a few hours. We tried them warm and then cooled. We both preferred the bars after they had been in the refrigerator for a few hours. The flavors had time to come together and you could really taste the coconut and pecans.
serves 12 to 16
- 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 box German Chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients to make cake
- 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
- 1 (1-pound) box powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour a 9×13-inch pan.
Sprinkle coconut and pecans in bottom of prepared pan.
Prepare cake mix according to package directions and pour over coconut and pecans.
Mix together cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar with a hand held mixer. Pour over cake mix.
Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Allow to cool completely before cutting.
